Galvanized wire is a fundamental category of industrial steel wire: a protective zinc coating applied to high-quality carbon steel. The coating creates a barrier against corrosion, extending service life wherever moisture, salt or industrial exposure would otherwise cause rapid degradation. But "galvanized wire" alone is not a specification — you must decide two independent variables:
Tensile grade — how strong and stiff the wire is (standard vs high-tensile).
Zinc coating class — how much corrosion protection the coating provides.

Aogang galvanized wire is produced from environmentally friendly steel including grades SAE 1006, 1008, 1018, 1045, 1055 and 1070, in two tensile bands:

The single most common mistake is ordering high-tensile wire for a tying job (it fights the tool and the installer) or standard wire for a fence line (it sags and stretches). Match the grade to the dominant load.
The coating mass is expressed in grams per square metre (g/m²). Heavier classes survive longer outdoors. Representative bands from industry standards (ASTM A475 / BS 183 style):

Aogang's galvanized wire reaches up to 300 g/m² with a uniform, strongly adherent coating that is not prone to peeling — the adhesion matters as much as the mass, because a thick but flaking layer fails early.

For most fencing, trellis, gabion and engineering wire, hot-dip is the default for service life. Aogang's process chain — wire rod → drawing → pickling → galvanizing (electro or hot-dip) → collection → testing → packaging — lets the coating be specified per application.
Aogang galvanized wire spans 1.4 mm to 5.0 mm. Diameter interacts with both grade and coating:
Thin (1.4–2.0 mm) — tying wire, mesh, fine binding; standard tensile preferred for workability.
Mid (2.0–3.0 mm) — general fencing, poultry netting, garden use; either grade.
Thick (3.0–5.0 mm) — heavy-duty gabions, trellis, structural bracing; high-tensile common.
Coating mass scales with diameter too — larger wires carry more absolute zinc per metre, which is why coating tables are banded by diameter.

Ordering only "galvanized wire" — no diameter, grade or coating class means the mill guesses.
Using standard wire for long fence spans — it stretches and sags; specify high-tensile.
Using high-tensile for hand tying — it resists the tool; specify standard.
Under-coating for coastal duty — specify Heavy or Extra-heavy, not Standard.
Ignoring coating adhesion — ask for an adhesion/bend test, not just g/m².

Coating mass alone is not enough — adhesion and uniformity decide real life. In a purchase order or incoming inspection, request:
Coating mass (g/m²) — by the weigh-strip method on a defined sample length.
Adhesion / bend test — the coating should not flake or peel when the wire is bent around a mandrel; Aogang's coating is specified as not prone to peeling.
Uniformity check — confirm the coating is even along the coil, not thin at the ends.
Surface finish — spangle, brightness and freedom from bare spots for aesthetic or mesh-welding uses.
For structural or long-life outdoor wire, pair a heavier coating class with a verified adhesion test rather than chasing the highest g/m² alone.
Galvanized wire is durable and fully recyclable at end of life, and Aogang produces it from environmentally friendly steel materials with RoHS-compliant finishes — relevant for buyers supplying regulated markets. Because the product is made within an integrated steel-to-wire chain, each coil carries traceability from rod heat to finished wire, so a field corrosion claim can be investigated against the exact production record rather than guesswork.
A coastal erosion-control contractor needed gabion wire for a seawall. The wrong spec would have been standard-tensile, standard-coating wire — it would sag under rock fill and corrode in the splash zone within years. The correct specification was high-tensile (to hold basket shape under load) with a heavy-to-extra-heavy hot-dip coating at the upper end of Aogang's 300 g/m² capability (to survive salt spray). Stating both grade and coating class up front avoided a premature replacement cycle.
Galvanized wire rarely ships as loose coil alone — it is usually the feedstock for a downstream product, and the coating class must survive that processing:
Welded wire mesh — the zinc layer must weld cleanly without excessive smoke or brittleness at the joint; specify a coating compatible with your welding process and confirm spangle/finish.
Woven / hexagonal (poultry) mesh — the wire is bent repeatedly, so coating adhesion (no flaking at the weave) matters more than peak g/m².
Gabion manufacturing — heavy forming and edge folding demand both high tensile and a ductile, adherent coating; this is where high-tensile + heavy hot-dip earns its cost.
Wire rope core wire — galvanized wire is drawn further into rope; the coating must not crack during stranding.
Packaging / binding — standard tensile, standard coating is usually sufficient and keeps cost down.
Tell the mill the downstream process, not just the end use, so the coating and tensile are tuned for it.
Heavier zinc coatings protect longer but can challenge resistance welding, where the zinc must be managed at the electrode. If your mesh is resistance-welded at high speed, confirm the coating class and any pre-treatment with the mill so joints stay consistent; for woven mesh this is less of a concern because there is no fusion point.
Even well-coated wire degrades if stored wet and stacked directly on soil. Keep coils on pallets, under cover, with airflow; for long site storage of high-tensile fencing wire, a light stretch-and-relax before installation removes coil memory and improves straightness in the fence line.

Standard (soft/medium) galvanized wire typically runs 350–550 MPa tensile and is easier to bend, tie and form — ideal for rebar tying, binding, mesh and general use. High-tensile galvanized wire runs about 900–1200 MPa and holds shape under load, resists stretching and supports longer spans — ideal for fencing, vineyards, gabions and structural bracing.
They describe the mass of zinc coating per unit area. Common bands are standard (e.g. ~210–270 g/m2 for small diameters), heavy (~420–540 g/m2) and extra-heavy (~630–810 g/m2). Heavier coatings resist corrosion far longer in outdoor, coastal and chemical-exposed service. Aogang galvanized wire reaches up to 300 g/m2 with uniform, well-adhered coating.
Hot-dip galvanizing produces a thicker, metallurgically bonded, more durable zinc layer suited to outdoor and corrosive duty. Electro-galvanizing gives a thinner, smoother, brighter finish suited to indoor, forming or aesthetic uses. For most structural and agricultural wire, hot-dip is preferred for service life.

Standard tensile (350–550 MPa) galvanized wire is preferred for rebar tying and general binding because it is soft enough to twist and knot by hand or with a tying tool, while still offering corrosion resistance on the site.
